Freedom Depot FAQ

Buying Firearms Online

Can I buy a firearm online from Freedom Depot?

Yes. You can purchase a firearm online, but firearms cannot be shipped directly to your home. Firearms must be shipped to a licensed Federal Firearms Licensee, also known as an FFL, where the required paperwork, background check, and transfer are completed.

How does the online firearm purchase process work?

Place your order on Freedom Depot, choose your receiving FFL, and make sure the FFL sends us a copy of their license if needed. Once the firearm arrives at your selected FFL, you will complete the required federal and state paperwork, pass the required background check, and pick up the firearm from that dealer.

What is an FFL, and do I need to contact one before ordering?

An FFL is a federally licensed firearms dealer authorized to receive and transfer firearms. We recommend contacting your chosen FFL before placing your order to confirm that they accept transfers, ask about their transfer fee, verify their hours, and confirm that the firearm is legal to transfer in your state or locality.

In-Store Purchases in New Jersey

Can I buy a firearm in-store at Freedom Depot?

Yes, but in-store firearm sales in New Jersey are only available to eligible customers who have the required New Jersey firearms credentials. At minimum, customers must present a valid New Jersey Firearms Purchaser Identification Card, also called an FID or FPIC.

For handgun purchases, a valid New Jersey Permit to Purchase a Handgun is also required.

Do I need an FID card to buy from Freedom Depot in-store?

Yes. Freedom Depot only sells firearms in-store in New Jersey to customers who have a valid NJ FID/FPIC card and meet all other applicable federal, state, and local requirements.

Can I buy ammunition in-store?

In-store ammunition sales are subject to New Jersey law and Freedom Depot policy. Customers may be required to present a valid NJ FID/FPIC card or other required documentation depending on the type of ammunition being purchased.

Background Checks and Pickup

Do I have to pass a background check?

Yes. Firearm transfers must be completed through the receiving FFL, and the FFL is responsible for conducting the required background check before transferring the firearm to you.

What do I need to bring when picking up my firearm?

Bring a valid government-issued photo ID showing your current residence address. Depending on your state and the type of firearm, your FFL may require additional documents, permits, licenses, or proof of eligibility.

What happens if my background check is delayed or denied?

If your background check is delayed, your receiving FFL will follow the applicable rules before releasing the firearm. If your background check is denied, the firearm cannot be transferred to you. Any return, cancellation, restocking fee, shipping fee, or refund eligibility will follow Freedom Depot’s return policy.

Can someone else pick up my firearm for me?

No. The person listed as the buyer/transferee must be the actual person receiving the firearm and must complete the required paperwork and background check.

Shipping and Restrictions

Can Freedom Depot ship firearms directly to my home?

No. Firearms must be shipped to a licensed FFL dealer. Non-firearm items such as accessories, optics, and other eligible products may be shipped directly to you, depending on the item and applicable laws.

How long does shipping take?

Shipping times vary based on order volume, payment verification, FFL verification, carrier timelines, and item availability. Firearms are shipped only after we have the required FFL information.

Will I receive tracking information?

Yes. Once your order ships, you will receive tracking information by email. For firearms, tracking will show delivery to your selected FFL, not to your home.

Can I pick up my firearm as soon as tracking says delivered?

Not always. Your FFL must receive, log, and process the firearm before beginning the transfer. Please wait for your FFL to contact you, or call them before visiting.

Do you ship to all states?

We only ship firearms, ammunition, magazines, parts, and accessories where lawful. Certain items may be restricted by state or local law. Orders that cannot legally be shipped or transferred may be canceled.

Ammunition, Magazines, and Accessories

Does Freedom Depot ship ammunition?

Yes, where lawful and where Freedom Depot offers ammunition shipping. However, Freedom Depot does not ship ammunition to:

New York, New Jersey, California, Illinois, or Massachusetts.

Ammunition orders to these states may be canceled or removed from the order.

Does Freedom Depot ship ammo to all states?

No. Freedom Depot does not ship ammunition to all states. Due to state laws, shipping requirements, and compliance policies, Freedom Depot does not ship ammunition to New York, New Jersey, California, Illinois, or Massachusetts.

Ammunition orders placed with shipping addresses in these states may be canceled or removed from the order.

Are magazines restricted?

Some states and localities restrict magazine capacity. Freedom Depot will not knowingly ship restricted magazines to prohibited locations. Customers are responsible for knowing their local laws before ordering.

Do optics, holsters, and accessories need to ship to an FFL?

Most accessories do not need to ship to an FFL. However, certain regulated parts or items may have restrictions depending on federal, state, or local law.

Returns, Cancellations, and Order Issues

Can I cancel my order?

Orders may be canceled if they have not yet shipped. Once a firearm has shipped to an FFL, cancellation may not be available or may be subject to return shipping and restocking fees.

Can I return a firearm?

Once a firearm has been transferred from the FFL to the buyer, returns are generally limited. Any manufacturer defects should usually be handled through the manufacturer’s warranty process. Please review Freedom Depot’s return policy before purchasing.

What should I do if my firearm arrives damaged or the wrong item was sent?

Inspect the firearm at your FFL before accepting the transfer. If there is visible shipping damage or the wrong item was sent, do not complete the transfer. Contact Freedom Depot immediately with your order number, photos if available, and your FFL’s contact information.

What happens if my FFL refuses the transfer?

If your FFL refuses the transfer for legal, policy, or eligibility reasons, contact us immediately. Return shipping, restocking fees, or cancellation terms may apply based on the situation.

Legal and Safety

Can Freedom Depot tell me if a firearm or item is legal in my state?

We do our best to follow applicable laws and restrictions, but laws can change and may vary by city, county, and state. Customers are responsible for confirming that any firearm, magazine, ammunition, part, or accessory is legal to purchase, possess, and receive in their location.

Does Freedom Depot provide legal advice?

No. Information on our website is for general customer support only and is not legal advice. If you have legal questions, please consult your local FFL, local law enforcement, or a qualified attorney.

What is Freedom Depot’s commitment to responsible firearm ownership?
